Blown Castor Oil

Blown Castor Oil (BCO) is a high-viscosity, oxidized castor oil derivative valued for its tackiness, film strength, lubricity, and adhesion properties. Its versatility makes it an essential raw material across inks, coatings, adhesives, lubricants, textiles, rubber, and specialty chemical formulations.

It is produced by passing air through refined castor oil under controlled temperature conditions. This oxidation process increases viscosity and molecular weight, resulting in improved body, tack, film strength, and adhesion. Blown Castor Oil is widely used where higher viscosity and enhanced performance are required.

Key Applications

Blown Castor Oil is widely used in:

Textile & Leather Chemicals – Helps in softening and finishing formulations

Paints & Coatings – Improves gloss, flow, leveling, and pigment dispersion

Printing Inks – Acts as a binder and viscosity modifier

Lubricants & Greases – Enhances lubricity and thickening characteristics

Adhesives & Sealants – Provides tackiness and flexibility

Rubber & Plastic Processing – Used as a plasticizer and processing aid
