Dehydrated Castor Oil (DCO) is a chemically modified derivative of natural castor oil, produced by removing most of its hydroxyl groups through a controlled dehydration process. This modification converts the oil into a drying or semi-drying oil, unlike conventional castor oil, resulting in enhanced performance in coating and resin applications.

Key Applications
Paints, Coatings & Inks
Used as a binder or modifier in:
- Alkyd resins and varnishes
- Decorative and industrial paints
- Quick-drying printing inks
- Clear protective coatings
DCO improves drying time, gloss, adhesion, flexibility, chemical resistance, water resistance, and non-yellowing properties.
Alkyd & Synthetic Resins
Acts as a reactive component or modifier in alkyd resin systems for enhanced:
- Film toughness
- Flexibility
- Weather resistance
It’s useful in high-performance surface coatings.
Lubricants & Greases
Serves as a viscosity modifier and performance enhancer in industrial greases and lubricant formulations requiring stability and load performance.
Adhesives & Sealants
Improves bonding strength and processing by modifying viscosity and cohesive properties.
Plastics & Polymers
Used as a plasticizer or performance additive to enhance flexibility, processability, and mechanical properties of certain plastic systems.
Textiles & Finishes
In textile finishing, DCO can impart:
- Water repellency
- Softness
- Enhanced handle of fabrics
Cosmetics & Pharmaceuticals
In some cases (depending on grade purity):
- As binding agent in tablets or pressed powders
- As emollient in creams, lotions, lipsticks
(Careful grade selection is needed for personal care/pharma use.)
Specialty Uses
- Marine and anti-corrosive coatings (due to durability)
Wire enamels and electrical coatings
